About Jean-Guy

Singer-songwriter, Jean-Guy Deraspe is from the Iles de La Madeleine. He started his career by winning the first prize from Radio Canada.

He made a career in Quebec with a style combining Folk and Country then crossed the Atlantic to settle in France where he cultivated a more folk style to tell his roots and his country through legends and folklore.

His first album ” Je roule ma vie ” appeared in 1990, followed in 1994 by “Mouvance”. In June 1997, he completed “Légende”, his third disc, more intimate.

Two songs from his album “Chez nous”, released in 1999, were included in the compilations “Thalassa –Québec” and “Chansons & Traditions du Québec” alongside those of Félix Leclerc, Gilles Vigneault and Robert Charlebois.

Defender of the Quebec language and the musical tradition of his country, he gives us his texts on authentic music.

In 2001, he recorded “L’Aut’bord” where he combined traditional music with world music.
“Du Labrador au St Laurent” his penultimate album was released in 2010.

In this album of mixed trad, he mixes Quebec folklore with Celtic, Eastern and Gypsy influences.

In 2021, it’s a return to basics with “Darraspé” an album that brings together musicians of great talent where he finds a more country and folk style. His recent album “Edgar” will be released in record stores on the new Hello USB Digipak before summer 2024.

He now gives shows throughout France and also in Quebec.
